Cat 3500 Engines (3508, 3512 and 3516) are the best selling power units of their size in the world.  One reason is their design simplicity.  We build them to be easy to install maintain and service.

SERVICE EFFICIENCY REDUCES OPERATION COSTS.

Consider service access.  Two inspection operations per cylinder make it easy to get at everything from the camshaft to the main bearings. Individual cylinder heads let you open up and work on a single cylinder.

To minimize parts inventory and potential assembly errors, we build 3500 engines with many common parts. For Example, intake and exhaust valves, valve seat inserts and valve springs are all identical.

SUPERIOR FUEL ECONOMY.

Cat 3500 engines incorporate several proven fuel-saving design features such as four-stroke cycle design, unit fuel injectors and four valves per cylinder. Additional savings are provided by performance-matched turbochargers and charge-air cooling.

At the factory we set scroll-type unit injectors for consistent, precise fuel delivery to each cylinder. Fuel is injected at 18,000 psi (1240 bar) for superior atomization. And by producing injection pressure at the cylinder, high-pressure fuel lines are eliminated.

In competitive testing, Cat 3500s are typically 5 to 15 percent more fuel efficient than other same-class engines. In one test that pitted a 3512 against an identically rated competitive engine, the Cat engine burned 6.5 percent less fuel. After 5,000 hours of operation, the 3512 would have saved 15,000 gallon (56,800 liters) of fuel.

SAVING AT REPOWER TIME.

This high efficiency of 3500s makes them a very attractive repowering alternative. This is especially true when you consider the cost of repairing and overhauling an old inefficient engine. Count on 3500 engines to deliver higher production with less fuel comsumption.
